brentalfloss

If you like Video game covers, my guess is that you already know this guy. Brent Black or better known as brentalfloss.

This guy is known for his youtube channel where he makes some pretty funny videos, but luckily he also has a bunch of stuff on Spotify, and that makes me able to make a post about him.

I mentioned Brent in a post back in May of last year, and my statements still stands true, I love this guys take on Moon Theme from Ducktales. I guess that is how I rank most game music cover bands, what is the quality of the covers Moon Theme, Megaman 2 - Airman and Bionic Commando - Area 1/Main theme. (But then, Bionic Commando cannot be outdone since this and this version)

I also have to comment on the production quality of his songs. I love the Advantage, but brentalfloss vocal covers beat them hands down.

Anyway, he has done work with Random (upcoming post about him as well), madinthemoon and Dave Bulmer, (those dos not have anything on Spotify so no post for them)

Tanuki Suit Riot

I was going to do a quick write-up of the guys until I found out Brentalfloss had already written up a much better review than I could ever do. Check it out here.

In short: LA band, funky-jazz-rock, best song: Contra Base or Zelda II.

Check out their album here: Tanuki Suit Riot – The Edo Sessions

This Place Is Haunted

This Place Is Haunted unfortunately only has one out of its three albums on Spotify.

If I had to pick what makes TPIH stand out from other cover bands it would be the length of their songs, their songs tend to wander off into areas that you did not really expect.

At times I get a feeling that TPIH wants to stand apart from their peers like The Minibosses and The Advantage (two groups that I feel are instantly similar when you first hear them), but this only happens when you get deep into their songs. From the start, Double Dragon, Castlevania and Super Mario Bros 2 are eerily similar to the Minibosses version of these songs, but then, when a Minibosses song usually ends after 2-3 min, TPIH lasts for 7-10 min, and usually goes other places after that initial spurt.

So, if you like metal covers of game music, give this one a chance it has something those other guys don’t always have.

Classical Covers

As we are starting to run low official soundtracks, I am going to put up some classical covers today. I also plan to go into cover bands and general game band music in later posts.

Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra – PLAY! A Video Game Symphony LIVE!

This album was recorded in Prague by the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and contains some classic covers of games like Castlevania, Sonic, Silent Hill, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Battlefield, World of Warcraft, Oblivion and Guild Wars.

Video Games Live, vol. 1 is recordings of various segments from multiple shows, was released in 2008. The music on the album was performed by the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra. The album contains songs from games like Warcraft, Kingdom Hearts, Myst, Medal of Honor, Civilization, Tetris, God of War, Tron, Halo and Castlevania.

Great album by London Philharmonic Orchestra, 21 songs in all in all some of the gems include: Zelda, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, Mario, GTA, Oblivion, BioShock, Halo, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Super Mario, Splinter Cell, and Fallout.
